The GSHIP Committee meets several times annually to review graduate/professional student health insurance coverage and care, and to recommend changes, if any, regarding insurance carriers, health provider groups, cost, coverage, benefit levels, waiver criteria, etc. This is an oversight and advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Chancellor, who has final authority (UCI, not the GSHIP Committee or AGS, is the entity which signs the actual insurance contracts) over the GSHIP programs.
Since 1990, the GSHIP Committee is a student lead committee and includes up to six graduate/professional student members (appointed by the
Associated Graduate Students (AGS) Council every year), one representative from UCI's Executive Vice Chancellor's Office, one representative from UCI's Office of Graduate Studies, and one representative from UCI's Office of Student Affairs. The committee meets throughout the year and is most active during winter and spring quarters.
AGS Council is currently seeking students interested in serving on the GSHIP Committee. Any registered graduate student is eligible to serve on the GSHIP Committee, and those interested should contact the GSHIP Committee Chair at
