At some time during your tenure as a graduate student, you may feel you need advice in resolving a work-related conflict, academic dispute, or personal issue that may encumber your working or learning experience at the University. In such an instance, every effort should be made to personally resolve disputes informally at your departmental or school level. This can usually be done through consultation with the appropriate faculty member, Principal Investigator, Academic Advisor, Department Chair, or Associate or Academic Dean of your school. The Office of Graduate Studies maintains a listing, the
Graduate Program Directory, of contacts within your department and school.
If no resolution can be achieved at the departmental or school level, concerns may be brought to the attention of the Dean of Graduate Studies. Alternatively, UCI offers many other
informal and
formal conflict resolution options in neutral environments that you will find beneficial. Places where you can discuss sensitive matters and can receive information about the confidential, voluntary, and effective processes that are available to resolve professional and/or personal concerns. When you meet with these respective offices, you will receive an objective review of your problems as well as beneficial guidance that will enable you to choose an efficient resolution process to meet your specific needs.
