2008 Graduate Commencement

Saturday, June 7, 2008
4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Bren Events Center

The 2008 Commencement video has been made available for viewing in Real Player format.

As nearly 3,000 friends and family looked on, over 500 Ph.D., Ed.D. and Master’s candidates received advanced degrees at UC Irvine’s inaugural graduate commencement ceremony at the Bren Events Center on June 7, 2008.

Presiding official Chancellor Michael V. Drake, M.D. welcomed students, faculty and distinguished visitors to the ceremony, congratulated graduates, and conferred degrees.

Joining the chancellor on the dais were UC President Robert C. Dynes, who made brief remarks; keynote speaker Dr. Arden L. Bement, Jr., director of the National Science Foundation; and student speaker Melissa Bruninga-Matteau, president of the Associated Graduate Students and Ph.D. candidate in the School of Humanities.

Also sharing the stage were deans and associate deans representing schools, departments and administrative offices across the UC Irvine campus.

We hope this ceremony marks the beginning of a new and valued tradition at our campus, one that awards special recognition to the vital contributions that graduate students and graduate education make to the University, local communities, California, our nation, and the world.
