Student Teaching Union Information

Teaching assistants, associates in, readers, and tutors working at the University of California have the right to collective bargaining.
Students serving in these teaching title codes at the University of California have chosen the Student Workers Union/United Auto Workers (SWU/UAW) as their exclusive collective bargaining agent. The initial negotiated labor contract became effective June 1, 2000. In 2003 a subsequent UC Systemwide labor contract was negotiated between the University and the labor union and is provided at the link below:
This contract is valid through September 30, 2007. Questions regarding this contract are best directed to UCI's Labor Relations Office (Nadine Fishel); however, the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of Academic Personnel may also be able to assist you with questions that may arise from time-to-time.

[Note: Students appointed in a research related title code (e.g., GSR, GSAR) or other non-teaching titles (e.g., Student Assistants) are not represented by the UAW or any other union.]
