Dear Campus Personnel Officers:
As stated in the January 2004 letter from AEVC Killackey, the UC-wide Postdoc Committee has selected a broker, Garnett-Powers and Associates (GPA), for the Postdoctoral Scholars’ Benefits Program. Due to major programmatic changes that needed to be performed on the payroll personnel system and extensive evaluation of current procedures, the implementation date was moved from July 1, 2004 to January 1, 2005. In conjunction with this delay, the use of the new titlecode for Postdoctoral Scholar – Employee and in turn, the implementation of the new policies on sick leave and time off were reasonably moved as well. The Office of Graduate Studies along with offices of Academic Personnel, Benefits/Human Resources and Payroll/Accounting are preparing to roll out into STAGE III of the Implementation of the Postdoctoral Scholar’s Policy (APM 390) and in order to move forward we need the following information:
1. Please confirm that you are the MAIN contact person from your school/unit;
2. Please provide us with contact information (name) of other staff members (by department or however you designate in your area) that are or will be involved with Postdoctoral Scholars specifically, Benefits Administration.
We will be holding two training sessions in mid-September. The dates will be presented to you as soon as we are able. The first 2-hour meeting will be for Campus Personnel Officers and staff from Biological Sciences, GSM, Humanities, ICS, Physical Sciences and RGS/ORU. The second session will be for the Arts, College of Medicine, Education, Engineering, Social Ecology and Social Sciences.
Our Broker, GPA, will take the lead in discussing the Benefits Package while transition guidelines in relation to sick and time off provisions will be discussed by Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies. Please keep in mind that this listing will be utilized in all aspects of benefits administration so it is highly encouraged that you update us if there are any changes.
Please respond as soon as possible and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Franchesca del Mundo
