Because of UCI's high-tech focus, every corner of campus, from the classrooms to on-campus apartments, is wired to the Internet. Every student, faculty member and staff member is easily accessible through their assigned mail accounts. Several open access computer labs equipped with PCs and/or Macs are spread throughout the campus and the campus has recently installed wireless technology to provide portable computing services to many areas of campus.
Additionally, the city of Irvine's development as a hub for national and international high-tech and bioscientific companies makes it's location ideal. UCI has partnered with many of these companies to form the
University Research Park, a research, development and educational center. This university-industry alliance will produce leading edge advances in these fields and stimulate further growth in southern California and the Irvine area in particular.
