Application Fee Waivers

The University of California, Irvine may grant graduate application fee waivers to certain U.S. citizens and permanent residents with strong financial need. Foreign applicants are NOT eligible for graduate application fee waivers. UC LEADS and McNair scholars are also eligible for fee waivers. Please follow the procedures outlined below.

As many students eligible for an application fee waiver are also eligible for many of UCI’s diversity fellowships, students who wish to complete a Request for Application Fee Waiver form, must first complete an Entering Students – Diversity Fellowship Supplemental Online Application. An Entering Students – Diversity Fellowship Supplemental Online Application Number will be required in order to fully complete the Request for Application Fee Waiver form. Incomplete requests will not be processed.

The Office of Graduate Studies must receive graduate application fee waiver request forms, and all pertinent documents, by the 15th of January in order to evaluate your financial need and eligibility for a fee waiver. Until the $60 application fee has been received, or a fee waiver has been formally granted, your application will be put on hold and will not be processed. Only one application fee waiver will be granted per student and the waiver is non-transferable should the student wish to apply to a second UCI degree program.

Diversity program scholars (e.g, McNair and UC LEADS Scholars) need to include a letter from the program director at your undergraduate institution certifying that you are a program participant. The letter needs to include your current address, telephone number and E-mail address.

Please note that the application fee waiver may be applied to only one graduate program per each academic year.

In order to request an application fee waiver, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete and submit the online application for Graduate Admissions.
    - Select the "check/money order" payment option.

  2. Fill out and submit a completed Entering Students – Diversity Fellowship Supplemental Online Application.

  3. Once your diversity fellowship supplemental online application is completed and submitted, you will receive an email confirmation within a few minutes that will provide you with directions on how to view your completed diversity application and download a Request for Application Fee Waiver.

  4. Complete the Request for Application Fee Waiver form.

  5. Sign and date the Request for Application Fee Waiver form.

  6. Mail your completed* Request for Application Fee Waiver form, AND all required supporting documentation by January 15, 2007 to:

    ATTN: APPLICATION FEE WAIVER REQUESTS

  7. You will be notified via email within two weeks if, and when, your request for a graduate application fee waiver has been granted. The $60 application fee will need to be paid by check or money order if your application fee waiver is not approved.

  8. Until the $60 application fee has been received, or a fee waiver has been formally granted, your application will be put on hold and will not be processed.

* Please note that incomplete requests WILL NOT be processed.
