Employment or appointment of postdoctoral scholars, while initiated by the department or institute in which the scholar will study, is overseen by UCI's Graduate Division. In partnership with UCI's Office of Academic Personnel, Graduate Studies ensures adherence to the
policies and procedures set forth by the University of California for Postdoctoral Scholars. Policies regarding postdoctoral training are the responsibility of the Graduate Council of the Academic Senate and the Graduate Division. Graduate Dean Carolyn P. Boyd is responsible for the administration of postdoctoral affairs. Postdoctoral scholars are sponsored by individual faculty members and are compensated through a variety of mechanisms.
