Post-doc housing at UCI is a priority and we are constantly working to improve availability. As you would expect, housing in any metropolitan area is always somewhat in high demand, and UCI is no exception. The good news about working at a University of California (UC) campus is that these dynamic academic entities are major economic drivers within their local community and the state. All UC campuses contribute billions of dollars of financial and intellectual stimulus to their surrounding communities. Businesses thrive as the university drives new technologies, high-tech manufacturing, service industries, jobs, and yes, even housing. And since jobs are more plentiful here than in most other areas, there are more people desiring to live here who seek housing. This scenario can make securing off-campus housing a challenge that is best addressed as early as possible. Often, single post-docs choose to share housing as a means of lowering expenses. Housing is especially acute for married post-docs or post-docs with dependent children, who may not have the option of sharing housing with fellow UCI scholars.
To assist post-docs in locating living accommodations in the surrounding communities, UCI's
Off-Campus Housing Office maintains a plethora of resources related to available rentals, services, tips, and search vehicles to help you navigate the process of securing off-campus housing. View the
Faculty/Staff Housing Office and the
University Hills Rental Office websites for more detailed information about on-campus housing.
We are providing you with this advance information because we want your housing experience to be as pleasant as possible, so you can focus on your primary academic purpose for coming to UCI.
