It has been a long-term goal of the University of California at large to provide consistent benefits to ALL Postdoctoral Scholars to include; Postdoctoral Scholar-Employees, Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellows and Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Directs, regardless of their sources of funding. In working with an outside insurance Broker, Garnett-Powers & Associates (GPA), University of California is now able to offer ALL Postdoctoral Scholars a new system-wide benefits plan effective January 1, 2005. The Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan (PSBP) is a comprehensive package intended to closely match the benefit structure of the UC Faculty/Staff plan in terms of options and rates.
PSBP is administered through GPA. To this end, PSBP enrollment forms and information on plan design and
rates are available at GPA’s website,
http://www.garnett-powers.com/postdoc/index.htm. More importantly, in their continued commitment to customer service, GPA has made available a Postdoctoral Scholar toll-free service line,
1-800-254-1758, and email address,
psbp@garnett-powers.com, to assist Postdoctoral Scholars in making plan choices or to answer any type of benefit inquiries.
In overview, your PSBP includes the following coverage options:
- Medical: Health Net HMO or PPO
- Dental: Health Net DHMO or Principal PPO
- Vision: Health Net PPO
- Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)*: Standard Insurance Co.
- Includes Medical Evacuation and Repatriation coverage for International postdocs (effective January 1, 2007)
- Short-Term Disability Insurance*: Standard Insurance Co.
- Voluntary Long-Term Disability Insurance: Standard Insurance Co.
