Office of Naval Research Post-doctoral Fellowship Program
Administered by the American Society for Engineering Education, the Navy offers this fellowship to qualified candidates interested in developing their academic career in "a unique Navy laboratory environment, while interacting with senior laboratory scientists and engineers".
Applying for the Naval Research Fellowship requires the following:

  • Submission of a sponsered 5-10 page research proposal in keeping with the Navy's objectives
  • Official transcripts from each level of education including a curiculum vitae
  • That applicants be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident willing to work as a scientist or engineer on-site at an ONR laboratory.

Army Research Laboratory Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The Army Research Fellowship, also administered by the American Society for Engineering Education, possesses similar objectives to the Naval Research Fellowship outlined above.
Applying for the Army Research Fellowship requires the following:
  • Submission of a sponsored 5-7 page research proposal in keeping with the Army's objectives
  • Proof of having obtained a Ph.D., Sc.D., or other research doctoral degree
  • That applicants be a U.S. citizen (however, some appointments will accept applicants who are permanent residents)

Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for Minorities

This program offers postdoctoral fellows of minority background the opportunity to engage in a year of postdoctoral research and scholarship in an environment free from the interference of their normal professional duties. The Ford Foundation's goal is to assist the recipients of this fellowship in achieving greater recognition for their work and in developing the professional associations that will allow them to become more effective and productive in their academic careers.

HUD Urban Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Program provides postdoctoral fellowships to encourage new scholars to undertake research relevant to HUD priorities. The maximum grant period is fifteen months and maximum amount that may be requested and awarded is $55,000. For 2004, up to ten fellowships may be awarded.
