International External Fellowships

  • Fulbright Grants
    The Fulbright program for U.S. students is coordinated by UCI's Office of Graduate Studies and the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York. The purpose is to provide U.S. students with the opportunity for academic development and international experience.

  • Fulbright-Hays Fellowships
    The Fulbright-Hays program is a separate and distinct program from the Fulbright Grant listed above. The Fulbright-Hays program is administered by the U.S. Department of Education, and its purpose is to provide support opportunities for graduate students to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies in specific priority geographical areas. Students interested in this program should refer to the Department of Education web site at http://www.ed.gov/. For specific information on submitting a proposal, please contact UCI's Office of Graduate Studies (Lisa Gauf, lgauf@uci.edu)

    For comments on your grant and fellowship proposals, please contact Beth Riley at briley@uci.edu.

    Your proposal should be prepared in the electronic format available through the Department of Education Web site. However, students must also print a hard copy and bring it to the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS). The U.S. Dept. of Education requires a few of the proposal forms to be signed by UCI's designated Official and sent to the U.S. Dept of Education via Federal Express.

    All documents should be submitted to Lisa Gauf in 120 Administration by the UCI internal deadline of October 25, 2007.

  • DAAD Grants
    The "Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst" (DAAD) is an organization of higher education institutions in Germany. Grants provide full funding. It's intent is to promote international academic relations by offering exchange programs to graduate students, faculty, & administrators.

  • UC MEXUS Grants for Dissertation Research
    UC MEXUS funds dissertation research in the areas of Mexico-Related Studies, Latino Studies, United States-Mexican Relations, Critical U.S.-Mexico-Related Issues, Latino and Mexican Topics in the Arts and Humanities.

  • Canadian Studies Grant Program for UCI Students
    The Canadian Graduate Student Fellowship Program promotes research in the social sciences and humanities with a view to contributing to a better knowledge and understanding of Canada and its relationship with the United States and/or other countries of the world. Priority topics include bilateral trade and economics, Canada-U.S. border issues, cultural policy and values, environmental, natural resources, energy issues, and security cooperation (in alphabetical order). In addition, projects that examine Canadian politics, economics, culture, and society as well as Canada's role in international affairs are welcome. The purpose of the fellowship is to offer graduate students an opportunity to conduct part of their doctoral research in Canada.

  • Boren Graduate Fellowship Program
    Enables U.S. graduate students ( U.S. citizens enrolled in or applying to a graduate degree program) to pursue specialization in area and language study or to add an international dimension to their education. Supports students pursuing the study of languages, cultures, and world regions that are critical to U.S. national security but are less frequently studied. Fellowship awards are made for a minimum of one and a maximum of six academic semesters (24 months). Fellowships provide support for overseas or domestic study, or a combination of both. The maximum award for overseas study is $10,000 per semester for up to two semesters ($20,000 total). A maximum of $12,000 is available for a program of domestic study only. Support for domestic study is limited to language or area studies which enhance a degree program. The maximum level of support for a combined overseas and domestic program is $28,000.

  • UCI CONACYT Grants

  • The Vietnam Education Foundation is a special initiative by the U.S. Congress to bring the people of Vietnam and the U.S. closer through science, technology and education through fellowship support of Vietnamese students for doctoral or postdoctoral study in Physical Science, Natural Science, Environmental Science, Medicine, Mathematics, Engineering, or Information Technology in American universities.
