As part of the progressive, high-tech research community that is at the core of the University of California, Irvine you will have access to the on-campus University Research Park (URP) which is a unique location where companies can enter into partnerships with UC Irvine researchers by sharing technology and building collaborations. The campus-like setting has facilities for research and development, light manufacturing, professional offices, and corporate business headquarters. The 185-acre complex is an endeavor between the University of California, Irvine and The Irvine Company.
The
University Research Park is the result of UCI's visionary plan to attract businesses that will engage in research and development, promote the development of new technologies, and strengthen the academic and research programs at UCI. Currently, opportunities for URP tenants include participation in
joint research activities and technology transfer; membership in corporate partnership programs with various schools; participation in UCI Extension and Executive Education courses designed to promote professional and workforce development; access to facilities; and attendance at athletic, artistic, and cultural events. Additionally, URP tenants frequently sponsor student internships, graduate student fellowships, and postdoctoral fellows.
The university continues to promote scientific diversity via its long-term efforts to attract companies to the URP with special synergies. Examples of URP resident companies include divisions of
Cisco,
AOL, and
Canon with a focus on computer and information technology;
Paragon Biomedical management of international clinical trials; and
McKinsey & Company with a focus on global management consulting.
