The Graduate Division offers three graduate school preparation program opportunities open to undergraduate diversity students, i.e., the
AGEP Summer Research Program, the
SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) program and the
UC LEADS (University of California Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degrees) program. In addition, we invite California Pre-Doctoral scholars to participate in our
Summer Research Program.
The graduate school preparation programs include:
- Graduate school preparation workshops (GRE test preparation, “How to Prepare and Apply for Doctoral Programs,” etc.)
- Research skills seminars and writing workshops
- Graduate student and faculty member mentoring
- Summer research experiences
- Participation in an annual Research Symposium
- Generous funding package
For specific program goals and eligibility, visit the
Summer Research Program website.
Students applying are evaluated on the criteria such as, scholarly achievement, outstanding potential for leadership, a strong potential for acceptance to a graduate program in the University of California system, as well as, successful efforts at overcoming socioeconomic or other educational disadvantages in pursuing their academic objectives.
Alternate programs at UCI include the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (
SURP) and other research opportunities administered by UCI's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (
UROP). The School of Biological Sciences administers the
Minority Science Programs. Note that student may
not be supported by more than one stipend for the same summer research project.
Additionally, UCI's Center for Education Partnerships (
CFEP) provides information on
external diversity fellowship opportunities available to undergraduate students; and the Scholarship Opportunities Program (
SOP) also assists UCI undergraduate students to identify and organize information about
external scholarships and fellowships.
